Title: Creative AI at Samsung Research America: Self-Supervised Learning for Robots and Music
Samsung Research America’s AI Center is focused on several areas encompassing machine learning, computer vision, and natural language. This talk will describe recent work from the Creative AI lab which focuses on developing the core technology to support applications in creative domains such as music generation. This includes new self-supervised methods for 1) understanding music in a manner that correlates with human perception and 2) enabling an embodied agent to generate action sequences allowing it to achieve a task grounded in music.
Mason Bretan is currently a Research Scientist at the Samsung Research America AI Center in Mountain View, CA. He leads the Creative AI group where his research encompasses machine learning and robotics with an emphasis on creating autonomous systems capable of meaningful musical interactions. His research career has been a balance between traditional academic and technical endeavors having spent time at Google Research and Huawei R&D as well as more artistic pursuits where his work in robotic musicianship has led to performances around the world including the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and the Funkhaus Berlin. He completed his undergraduate studies at UC San Diego in 2009 and received his Ph.D. from Georgia Tech in Music Technology in 2017.
